Notice Anything New??

Hopefully, you noticed my new header!  I love it!!  I was so determined to have a picture of the real 20 North Ora up there.  So, here she is.

Thanks so much to Bev @ Flamingo Toes  for designing my header.  She did my header for my Etsy a couple of years ago and I loved it.  So, I contacted her to see if she would do one for my blog and do business cards.  I highly recommend her work.  Thanks Bev!

Today, I played around with burlap and muslin ideas - mostly ideas I got from Pinterest.

The first thing I did was make these napkin rings out of plastic ones that I got at the Dollar Tree.

I wrapped the napkin ring in strips of muslin to cover the ring.  Then, I tore a strip of muslin slightly wider than the width of the ring by 45".  I did a basting stitch on my machine down the middle of the strip and pulled it to make very full gathers.  I hot glued it to the covered ring and added a vintage button.

Very easy and quick.  I then put lace napkins in the ring.  My Mom would have had a fit.  She always fussed at me about my tarnished silver.  But, I love it tarnished.  I don't want it polished and shiny.  She use to tease me that she was coming over sometime when I wasn't home and polish all of my silver pieces.  But, she really never did.

Next, I made little burlap silverware caddies.  I know you have seen them all over the blogs, etc.  I cut a piece of burlap 6" x 9".  Hem the 6" side.  Then sew on any lace you have - I used an old vintage piece that I had enough of to do four caddies.  Fold in two and sew down one side and across the bottom.  Turn inside out and press.  I found that topstitching the finished piece made it lay flatter.  I then added small white flowers because I knew I wanted to use them with white dishes.

Ta-Da!  Project #2

About that time, I remembered I needed a small gift for a friend.  So, I made her a little burlap pocket full of flowers to hang on her doorknob with a little note attached.

I started this one out with a piece of burlap 8" x 12".  Hem the top.  Find a really pretty piece of old lace - this one was almost 4" deep and sew on around the top.  Then sew down one side and across the bottom and turn.  I added old thin lace as streamers and a button on the side.  The streamers are about 7" long.  Take a heavier lace and sew on the back for the hanger - it measured about 15".

I bought a four pack of periwinkles at the store.  I used a plastic sandwich bag and took them out of the container and put them down in the sandwich bag so that it could be watered and not get the burlap wet and/or leak.

Then, just put the plastic bag down in your burlap pocket and go hang it on your friend's door to surprise her.

Enjoy!

Till next time, Judy
