I have such a fun project today. I made a Memory Frame.
Don't we all have tons of little and big frames we have picked up at flea markets or garage sales? None of these - even the big one was over $1.00
I spray painted them all with Rustoleum's Nutmeg and let them dry good.
I tore old book pages into pieces and Mod Podged them onto the backing piece of the large frame which measured 10" x 24".
I had a small piece of canvas that I covered in an old book page also and then antiqued the edges so it would stand out against the background.
When I started this project, I had planned to use old family photos but soon changed my mind to things I worked with everyday. In this section, I used a tagboard pennant and glued keys and a lock on it. The brown frame has an insert of old corrugated cardboard with a locket hanging which has pictures of my precious Landen and Laynee. I glued a cluster of vintage buttons, an old pearl buckle and a bird's nest with one egg in it in the corner. There is a piece of an old doily with edging under the end frame.
In the middle I used the small canvas and added vintage lace, buttons, measuring tape and an old spool of silk thread. Below is a cutout of scrapbook paper with an old spoon on top. The small frame has scrapbook paper with a kraft paper rosette topped with a crocheted flower. The little doll is a chalk doll I've had forever. She's been in a drawer and now, she'll be out for all to admire.
The other end has a small frame with scrapbook paper topped with a piece of printed burlap, a cluster of crinkled seam binding and another crocheted flower. A small black tile accents the top corner.
The wooden piece on the corner is covering up a big flaw on the frame - which I'm sure is why it was only $.50.
So, there you have my Memory Frame. It has so many things that I associate with loving, family memories. The crocheted flowers remind me of all of the time my Mother and Nana sat and crocheted and tried to teach me. The keys remind me of the various homes I've lived in. However, I've only had three homes including my Mom and Dad's home. So, I haven't lived very many places.
The old lace, buttons and fabric bring to mind all of the vintage linens that I love so dearly.
So, make yourself a Memory Frame. This was just about all things I had around the house so the cost was minimal.
Enjoy!
Till next time, Judy

ReplyDeleteJudy that is so beautiful! What a treasured keepsake and remembrance of your loved ones <3
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty, Judy! A great project for using those frames you can find at the thrift store {even those frames in the Michael's dollar bins}. This would be a great addition to a family style gallery wall, whether it's pictures or just other things that remind you of your family.
ReplyDeleteHi Judy

I love it, I love it...and I really like how you used the frames within a frame.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea Judy. I've seen these before but this reminds me to make one with some of my son's things who passed away in 2009. I was going to make one, and then never did. But now this renews my desire to do one. I love how you used frames inside and the piece of canvas board covered and distressed. I wish I had more little tokens of my son's.... and also wish I would have kept more little momentos from my mom and grandmother. I'm going to pin this to my pinterest board!
ReplyDeleteI love your memory frame! I usually pass on those boxes of frames at estate sales, but now I'll be sure to stock up when I see them. Clever idea!
ReplyDeleteWordless! :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously...I am not creative like this, at all, lol, and your stuff just amazes me..!
Judy, the Memory Frame is fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteOK, now that is a really cool project! You did an amazing job.
