Don't you just love when you take some of the "stuff" you've bought at garage sales and flea markets and do something with them?
I had purchased this silver plate - about 8" in diameter - at a estate sale. I think I paid $.50 for it. The reason it was so inexpensive was that in the center it had an engraved award for Best Baker - 1982 at the Tuttle Food Fair to John Weir.
I took an old, old photo of my Grandmother and Grandfather sitting on a rock wall dated 7/7/24. They were in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
We don't have a lot of photos of my Grandfather as he was a full blood Cherokee Indian. He passed away the same year I was born so I really never knew him.
I copied the photo onto cardstock and cut out a circle larger than the photo.
I dug out my big bag of vintage buttons and started hot gluing them around the picture on the edges of the circle of cardstock. Then, I just added other buttons here and there stacking them on top of each other until I had a pleasing arrangement that I was happy with.
TA-DA!!

This is a cute idea, Judy...I would have passed by the tray because of the middle but I have no imagination whatsoever! I love this! The edges are really pretty and the buttons make it special.

Judy, this really is a wonderful idea! I love the fact that you have that picture of your grandfather. We think that maybe one of our great great grandparents (on my mother's side) might have been Cherokee. Not sure, but we can't really locate them on a census, but we know they were from the Carolinas and know that the surname was one that belonged to an Indian trader who married a Cherokee woman. My grandfather's father's name is also unusual, and to me indicates that it might point to an Indian connection. I keep hoping that something turns up. It's the only genealogy line I've had difficulty charting.
