Firecrackers for the Flowerbed

I've had fun today making these firecrackers for my front flowerbed.

John found me some old wood out in the garage.  I had one board about 6" wide and cut them in various lengths - 12", 15" and 18".  Then we took lathe and cut the bottom at an angle to put into the ground.

Nail and/or screw the lathe into the big boards.

I spray based all of the board with white primer paint.

Then, I started painting the three in various red, white and blue patterns.  One was striped, one polka dot and one solid.

I used these foam stars that were sticky that I had gotten at Michaels.

I bought this spray of red, white and blue sparkly things - also at Michaels.  I think they were made to hold balloon bouquets.

I cut them off and stapled them to the tops of the painted firecrackers on the back.

Then, all you have to do is hammer the stakes down into your flower beds.

My flowers are so green and lush, but then, if you'd had as much rain as we've had mixed in with tornados, you'd be green and lush too.

Take a look at my hydrangea bush.  Isn't she gorgeous?

It's hard to believe that in a short time of our horrible heat everything will be wilted and dried out.  But, we're enjoying it all now.

Thanks to everyone who checked on us during the storms last night.  John and I went to a Martina McBride concert.  They announced at the start that they knew the weather was really bad and they had storm facilities if we had to use them.

So, we enjoyed the concert.

Till next time, Judy

  8. Hi Judy, I love the firecrackers in your flower bed. I know you enjoyed Martina last night. We have seen her in concert when she first started opening for Garth Brooks. My hubby watched her and slept through Garth's. He still gets teased about that. Hopefully you get a break from the storms. We all need it from the weather. I enjoyed your previous post. Have a wonderful Sunday. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.

  14. Adorable! As usual! This one should go in the book! I'm so glad you are okay. I'm so sick of the storms and they are saying that next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be more of the same. At least this year we are getting rain before the summer heat. Take care!
