Making the Best of Life

I decided when I lost Bella that I probably was not going to get another pet.  I have a real tendency to spoil them rotten (which is the only way I think you should have a pet) and I was getting up in years where I didn't really want to train a puppy.  I had good intentions of doing a bunch of traveling and decided this was not a good time to have a new pet.

Soooooo

I decided to make the squirrels in my neighborhood my pets.  I have huge trees and there are a lot of squirrels and birds.  This is my morning view.  I have 5 regular squirrels, cardinals and bluejays.  They expect me every morning to walk out with a cup of sunflower seeds and bird seed.

They love Cheetos.  They snarf them down and then licks their paws - just like the kids do.  LOL

A view of my favorite Mexican restaurant - Ricardos.  It is always just packed.  So sad.  It is only a block or so from my house so I have been there a couple of times to get take out.

Remember me telling you about my storage building being broken into?  These two photos show a small bit of the damage.  I used them to store items to use in staging houses.  That's about all I have done for the last few years.  So, it was full of furniture and accessories.  The bad part about it is they took a lot of stuff but what they didn't want, they just threw out on the concrete.  It rained on it all for three days before I even knew it had been broke into.  So, everything that had been thrown out was ruined and they took what they could carry off. So sad.

I got a letter from the storage facility last week saying they were closing it up and wouldn't charge me anything!!!!!  I was not a happy camper.  But, I will let an attorney handle it from here.

I put this photo on Facebook for Siblings Day.  This was taken for my folk's 25th wedding anniversary.  On the back left is Jane - who passed away several years ago - and Jeannie.  On the front are myself and Rita.  Gosh, we were thin and dark haired!

Enjoy!

Judy

  1. I am getting up in years and decided to adopt a five year old dog from the animal shelter; what a wonderful boy he is. I didn't want a puppy, partly because of my age. Your squirrels are cute though. What a mess at the storage facility.

  2. so sorry about the storage, they have not only failed to protect your property but then tried to sneak out of the responsibility by not charging you! be careful is any acknowledgement of their offer could be seen in law as acceptance of their failings. I hope you can get good legal help with this. Yes, with pets (our cat anyway) I think we lavish such kindness on them that sometimes it's not good for them (rich food) our cat has a tumor and diabetes so won't be around for long but we already agreed there will be no more - she is as precious as human family members and watching her ill and slowly losing life is hard for us. You're right, plenty of wildlife out there to appreciate - birds coming into the garden - we have squirrels too, they get an apple and make it last all week!

    1. hi Betty. I've turned the storage fiasco over to an attorney who was more than happy to take it. Their contract said they were not responsible for loss BUT, it also said they were responsible for security. So well see what happens. Enjoy your kitty. Stay safe and well.

  3. Sorry about your storage unit. Seems like they should be responsible for the break-in, and damage. Hope your squirrel gives you joy, I have one in my backyard too:) Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!

  4. Love your sweet squirrels. There is a guy in our area that is home and board so he made little picnic table feeders for squirrels and was giving them to people that wanted them for their yards. So cute. I hope you think about adopting an older pet some day. You are such a good fur mom and I am sure there are so many out there that need a good home. I said after our Cooper died no more for the same reasons you mentioned and then Buddy came into our lives!!!! I just cannot say no. I am glad I have him through this shelter at home time. Happy Thursday. Have a good day.
    Hugs,
    Kris

    1. dogs are such precious members of our families. I have thought so much the last month about how much company Bella would have been. Miss her so much. Stay safe and well.

  6. I don't remember reading about your storage facility. How awful! I am so sorry this happened to you. And I'm glad you have an attorney handling it.

I don't feed the squirrels here because food attracts the chipmunks too, and they're ruining our yard and house with their digging. Those darn rodents are already digging under our new porch.

My mom, whom is almost 80, lost her beloved pup last year. My mom lives all alone (she's also a widow), so she was devastated. She is not getting another pet either though, not only due to her age, but because of the cost.

Hope you and TIffany and the grandgirls are all doing well! xoxo

    1. Hi Melanie - we are all doing fine. Girls are loving staying home. Tiff misses her job but can't afford for Kaycee to be out. Stay safe and well.

  7. Judy I'm so sorry to hear about your losses, the loss of a dog is like a family member and is so profound, I can understand your hesitancy to invest all that love and energy again. You'll know when the time is right. And what a mess with the storage unit. All those valuable furniture pieces that allowed you to stage your homes. I just can't understand people who do that. At least you've got some adorable squirrels in your life. I just love those little guys, have you seen the little squirrel tables that some guy made and it went viral? I saw it somewhere and I want to make one.
    Stay safe and healthy,
    Leslie
