Victoria, Canada on Day Seven

On our seventh day, we docked at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  What a gorgeous city!

Renowned as Canada's "City of Gardens", Victoria and its gardens burst into bloom year round.  We rode a classic English double decker bus to the downtown area.

Their majestic Parliament Buildings and the ivy-covered Empress Hotel are some of Canada's most recognizable landmarks.  The gardens throughout the city are stunning and are illuminated by thousands of hidden lights.

My sister Jeannie and her daughter Gina in front of the parliament building which was lit up with over 3,000 lights.

The majority of their downtown old buildings were lit up - it was a beautiful sight.

What impressed me the most were the unbelievable flowers.  They had two of these baskets hanging from every streetlight.  They were awesome.  Guess that's where they get the name as the "Garden City".  Victoria averages over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year.

Enjoy!

Till next time, Judy

  3. It's truly the gem of BC. For us BC'ers it's kind of like taking a tropical vacation in the middle of winter, and not going over the border.

Well, they do get snow, and when they do it's a whopper, but spring comes earlier there.

Sounds like you had a great trip.

  9. It is a beautiful city! My best friend is from there and she still goes every year to visit her mother. I remember, even as a little girl, going on the ferry from Vancouver, and being greeted by all the beautiful flowers. I hope you have a chance to visit Butchart Gardens while you are there.
