Baby, It's Been Cold Outside!!

We had an awful ice storm last week.  We lost two big trees after the storm when the ice started melting!

This is my Yaupon Holly bush out in the front yard.  We had a day of freezing rain and then, a day of just ice.  It coated everything.

We sure had some interesting icicles tho!

This photo was at night.  It was in our back yard.  That is our fifty foot Pine tree and the hi-lines coated in ice.  We are just two blocks off of a main street and with all of the lighting behind, the ice just glowed like neon.

Luckily we did not lose our electricity although about 15,000 people did.  We were very lucky!

Till next time, Judy

  1. We have had the cold weather, but this time we got snow. Last week we had the freezing rain before the snow. I can remember our ice storm in 93 and one side of my big blue spruce looked like a chain saw went down one side of it. So many tree limbs down and we did lose our lights. Try to stay warm and take care. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.

  3. Ice storms are the worst! We've been enduring weeks of below zero temps with no end in sight. Sunday is supposed to bring record breaking low temps to northern MN. Sorry you lost trees in the ice storm. :(

  4. I just hope we get through this winter without too much ice. Hate that stuff. And having to pay someone to fix downed lines due to it.

  5. Oh my you sure are having such bad weather. We really need rain so bad have only had 3.5 inches and if we don't get any in January or February we will have to quit watering this summer and I will probably loose all my roses. Today it was about 76 but I was still cold.
Poor Bella - does she have a sweater? Bet she doesn't want to go out.
How are the baby girls? Hope they are gaining weight and can come home soon.
    Stay in where it's warm.

  6. The ice is so hard to deal with. I was so thankful I did not loose power when we had ice recently. I have places to go if necessary, but had rather be in my own home.
    Stay warm!!

  7. We had a nice storm here in Michigan too and we were without power for 5 days. Your photos are beautiful.

  8. Judy,
So glad to hear you did not lose your power with that storm. That looks pretty nasty. We are getting snow here in Chicago. Over 13 inches in the last two days. Stay in where it is warm and cozy and safe.

  9. That's a lot of ice!! We've gotten a lot of snow, at least a foot. Thankfully people have been home for the holidays to keep the sidewalks clear. Now it's the cold. It will be below zero next week. Yikes!

    XO,
    Jane

  12. I have never seen an ice storm, the pictures are beautiful but I expect it is very unpleasant to be in that environment. I wonder how the wildlife survives in your part of the world, anything that braves that ice must have thick skin and fur. In the UK we are experiencing flooding and stormy winds - we are waiting to see if the water will reach our house - the fields around look like lakes - nature is powerful. Betty

  16. Glad you did not lose your electric! We had a storm like that a few years ago, couldn't sleep at night because of all the trees and limbs crashing. We kept our elect too, but many were without
