Christmas Every Monday

To wind up this series of Christmas Every Monday, let's make this delightful fabric wreath.

Start with this thin wooden wreath frame.  I got mine at Michaels.  It's called a Craft and Floral Base.

Gather up all of your Christmas color fabric scraps and start cutting them.  I made mine 1" x 5".  I used a bunch of varied prints.  I made approximately 80 strips and did not use quite all of them.  I didn't want to have to stop in the middle and tie more.

Tie a knot in the center of each piece.  This is a good thing to do while you are watching TV and goes pretty fast once you get going with a rhythm.

I tied a piece of baker's twine in two of the holes already in the base and knotted it so I would have a hanger.

Hot glue the knots only!!

Put them as close as you can get.  Vary your patterns as you go using as much variation in the red, green and white patterns as you can.

I had also made this in fall colors.  You could make them for any occasion by varying the fabrics.

Hope you have enjoyed the easy projects and have started on your Christmas gifts.

Enjoy!

Judy

  1. I love the pretty fabrics for this project. I made a couple of garlands like this but a wreath would be beautiful. I wish I had enough Halloween fabric to make one! Great idea my friend. Hugs, Diane

  5. What a cute, cute idea. Do you remember the wreaths back in the 80s where you pushed fabric pieces down into a foam wreath form? And your fingers would end up just sore from all that pushing and poking before you were done. I like this idea much better- gluing would go fast, too.
Hope you have a great night-xo Diana

  6. I like them both, but really love the way the colors came together for the autumn one. I make a version too, but it looks like yours would be much quicker with a very similar result! xoxo Su

  8. Hi Judy, Love your rag wreaths and the Christmas themed fabrics are wonderful . I also do rag wreaths but never tried one with the flat wreath backing. I have been using the wire wreath forms and tying them in place. It takes 3 or 4 rows to be full. This background may save me time and fabric. It has been a fun project in the evenings while watching TV.
Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. xo

  11. This is so cute and looks fairly quick. I can see making a smaller one if you didn't have enough christmas scraps... but that's not MY problem for sure! I've made a smaller wreath using the cardboard circle.. I just cut one out of a 12x12 piece of the cardboard that comes on the back of the 12x12 paper pads... so it was about 8" across. I think a smaller one with smaller scraps would be darling and a great gift for someone. I'm inspired to make one! thank you so much for sharing. Marilyn from Oregon
