Next Project

This is my next project.  I found this four poster wood bed at a thrift store.  I paid less than $100 for it.

Look at the gorgeous carving on each and every one of the posts.

One problem - look at the top of this post - right below the ceiling fan.  The finial is missing.  So, I'm working on solutions for that post.

I am painting the bed a dark red - Plaster Paint Old Red.  It has alot of scratches and dings on it.  It will take me a while to paint all of the carved areas.

But, I will get it done!!

Got the blue piece moved into the entry.  It's really a pale, spa blue - not near as blue blue as it looks in the photo.

So, better whip out my paint brushes. My friends all make fun of me because I paint with a small brush.  It's maybe a 1 1/2" brush.  But, that's b

  3. Oh, I love that gorgeous bed and I can just imagine it painted up red! Do you think maybe you could find wooden balls at Michael's or Hobby Lobby? If you found a good sized one you could take the originals off and just use the new balls! Can't wait to see it. That cabinet is gorgeous too! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I'm loving going along with you as you make your new house 'you'! :)
    Be a sweetie,

  7. I use brushes no wider than 2" for my painting. More control that way plus less hand fatigue. You have a a great many wonderful projects in your lineup, looking forward to your solutions and results.

  8. Wow beautiful bed and great color choice. I cannot wait to see it done. It will be fun to see what you do with the missing piece. I would just cut them all off and call it a day. So I will be curious to see your solution to match the others. Love the blue cabinet too.

  10. You may or may not like this idea I'm envisioning in my head. Paint the carved areas with a complimentary color. A totally different color. Add black or white to the color you paint with. Then paint the bed the color you choose just barely hitting the carved nooks and krannys. You probably know the term "dry brushing" and that is sort of what I'm trying to explain. I know you know what I'm trying to write ... I hope. haha I think it will really make those carved areas pop.

  20. Hi Judy, wow what a treasure you found with the bed. It will be gorgeous with you magic touch. I too paint with a small brush. I think it comes from so many years of painting and having better control with a smaller width brush. The red will be awesome. Have fun!! Happy New Year! xo

  21. I would spray paint the bed. You can get a deep red in spray paint and it will be faster. Love the bed. Good luck with matching the finial. Perhaps you could make a rubber copy by using the sand method (one-half at a time) and gluing the two parts together, then hot gluing it on the post with hot glue. Or go to an artist and get her to do it for you.
