Thanks, Move In and Obsessions

First of all, thank you to all of you for your sweet birthday wishes!  I had a great day!  My two sisters came over and took me to lunch and then we hit a few estate sales.  Food and estate sales - what more could you ask?  LOL  My dear friend Dorothy (knowing how special yellow roses were to me) sent me this gorgeous bouquet of yellow roses.  They are still just beautiful.  I did cry, but it was a good cry.

We - me, Tiffany and her friend Kim, worked all last week moving.  They were both on vacation.  What a way to spend your vacation!

Anyway, on Friday night, Bella and I spent our first night in our new home.  It was so good.  Needless to say, Bella has adjusted to the move with great ease and pretty much makes anywhere she decides to lay her favorite spot!

Can you imagine waking up in the morning in a different house, a different room after spending 48 years in one bedroom at bedtime?  It was a surreal experience but a good one.

I have decided I have an obsession with dishes.  These are the built in shelves in the den filled with blue dishes....

this is the hutch in the den filled with red dishes....

the dining room table filled with old silver....

and lots of white in the living room!

What do you think?  Do I have a problem or not?  I still have all of the six foot shelf at the old house filled with white and cream McCoy that I haven't packed up yet.

It's all my Mother's fault.  She had the same problem with collecting dishes.  So, I inherited it.

So, since I've moved and living here, I'm going to try to take one room at a time and do all of the decor.

That's the plan!!  We'll see how it works out.

Enjoy!

Judy

  1. I agree with you, you may have an obsession with collecting dishes but I think it is a GOOD obsession. They are so pretty in the way you display them, grouped by color. Best wishes in your new home.

  3. Wow, Judy! That cannot be easy! But sounds look like you are doing it! You go girl! Oh and your dishes...are just so dishy! Love them! I have to control myself all the time, especially when it comes to plain white ironstone!! So I totally get it!
Praying your transition is smooth sailing from here on out!

    1. Thanks Debby! Moving has been a real effort. If it wasn't for my granddaughter Tiffany, I don't think I could have done it. She has been a Godsend. It's nice to be situated and get to start on the fun stuff.

  7. 48 years is a a long time! So are you adjusting as well as Bella is? It will be 22 more days and I'll be waking up in a different bedroom after 25 years. I'm excited but a little nervous too.

I hope the rest of your move goes well and I have to admit that I too am a dishaholic and my mother was too! I gave lots away to daughters-in-law while packing but am ashamed to admit how many boxes I'm also taking with me.

A belated happy birthday to you!

    1. Thanks Dewena - I'm adjusting well - it's just been such an adjustment! Being 72 and living in that one home all those years made it a traumatic experience. I love my new home and think it's a really good move. I'm so excited that Tiffany and her little girls will be enjoying my old home. We raised Tiffany so that was her childhood home too and is very special to her. So, I know it will be loved and I can go over there any time I want.

      Thanks for visiting.

  8. I am sure it's probably bittersweet moving from a home of 48 years, but you will be happy in your new home. I think you are wise doing one room at a time, that way when you get sick looking at the unpacked boxes, you will have one room done to escape to, to rest a minute or two. You have come a long ways, Judy...it is looking good.
Happy birthday...wishing you the best year, ever.

    1. Thanks Marigene - I am very happy in the new place. And knowing that Tiffany and her three little ones will be in my old house will keep it in the family. Thank goodness for my work room. I'm trying to keep all of the boxed items in there and just go thru them as I have time. I get really tired after 5-6 hours of unpacking.

      Thanks for dropping by.

  11. Hi Judy,
Happy Belated Birthday. Sounds like you had a great day. What is it about collecting dishes. I am the same way!!! Hope the move into the new house was good. I am sure it was a little strange to leave the house you spent almost all of your adult life in. I know this will be a good change for you. So happy you and Bella are getting settled. Hugs,

    1. I lucked out and found a dealer at the Flea Market that had all red dishes. I bought several at good prices and then when I went back by to see if I needed any others, the dealer said I could have them for 1.00 apiece if I bought them all. So, naturally, I jumped on it. I think I got about 40 pieces.

      Thanks for dropping by.

  13. Judy, there's our blue little cabinet! I think you might have the smaller one because yours has three shelves and skinnier and taller, and mine has only two shelves and wider and not as tall, hmmmm. Yours looks so cute filled up with all your goodies. I'm glad you're in your new home now. I love your red dishes, and look at all that silver! So nice to be home sweet home. Enjoy.

I can only imagine how strange it is to be in a new house and new bedroom after 48 years in the same place. You are amazing and strong.
My mom and aunt are dishaholics, too...and so was their mother/my grandma. I do love dishes too, but I have sold and donated a lot of my collections as I'm really working hard at the decluttering.
Love and hugs to you and Bella!
