Around The House

I have been working on my office which is right off of my master bedroom.  It has brick walls with a sliding glass door going out into the back yard.

I put my old Ethan Allen secretary in there in one corner. (Don't you love the photo with a can of spray paint on the bottom shelf?) LOL Didn't even see that until I pulled up the picture.

These are the curtains I made for the sliding glass doors.  I lined them with a black out lining since they are on a west facing wall.

This loveseat went with my LR couch but I used the aqua chairs in there, so I moved this into the office.  You can barely see that on this wall are wooden shelves and book cases above the loveseat.

Last weekend I went to my sister Jean's for a few days.  We had a great time as always shopping and decorating and eating.  Her daughter Gina came on Saturday and shopped all day with us.  FUN!! My sisters and I always have so much fun when we are together.  As we get older, we seem to enjoy spending more time together.

I had been looking for a smaller bookcase for my living room.  Found this at an antique store in Joplin.  It is perfect for where I want it.

Also bought this gorgeous Singer sewing machine and cabinet at a garage sale for $20.00.  There is a machine in the beautiful wooden cabinet but I can't get the cabinet open.  At the bottom right side is a little round opening that I'm sure has something to do with opening it, but I haven't gotten it open yet.  I plan on putting the wooden case on top of the hutch on my desk in the work room.

Any suggestions?

Also, found this beautiful etched mirror at an Estate Sale.

I have had this Coca Cola canvas for a long time.  I hung it over my desk in my work room.

Added a few more angels and a small white shelf to my arrangement in the master bedroom.

This is in the guest room.  And yes, that's me.  I had curly hair back then - don't what happen to it.  But, then again, my Mom was good at rolling our hair so that may have been the result.  I love that in all of our pictures when were were small, we always had on white high top shoes and white socks with lace on them.

Just a few photos from around the house this week.

Enjoy!

Judy

    1. Thanks Susie - I did look up the Singer machine and several said you could open it with a small screwdriver. Don't know what model it is until I see the machine. I did order a key tho.

  6. That is a cute baby picture of you. I like the angels you have above the little shelf. I chuckled after I noticed the can of spray paint on your shelf, only after you mentioned it. I am glad I'm not the only one with paint on a book/display shelf. Just the other day my husband asked me if I really needed the cans of spray paint on the bookshelf in the living room. I told him yes, I am putting several coats of paint on a project I am working on, and I want the paint handy whenever I get a chance, and the wind and weather are cooperating to paint, plus the paint right there on the shelf reminds me to use it. The problem is that the paint has been there a while, and I now don't even notice it. I've just got one more coat to go.

    1. Thanks Kathy. The Ethan Allen secretary desk is at least 51 years old. That's how long I have had it. I bought it new. I stalked the mirror at an estate sale for 5 days and finally got it for $22.00. Am doing some research on the sewing machine.

      Thanks for dropping by.

  8. Judy, You did good, girl! You find the best things at such good prices. That is a talent, you know! Love the old Singer. I think there is a key thing that fits in that hole and I know those ones that have the bentwood cases are worth quite a bit more than you paid.

    1. My sisters are such a blessing to me. We have always been so close but as we age, seems we are even closer. We absolutely love spending time together and do it as much as we can. I've been doing some research on the machine and seems I really hit the motherlode with it. Will probably keep it in by my other sewing machines. (And yes, I have more than one!)

      Thanks for dropping by.

  11. Judy, you got some great deals on your items. The sewing machine case has a key that is round and open so you can put it into the opening. Maybe at an antique store where they have lots of keys, or take it to a key store or lock smith and I bet that they can get it open.

I like everything that you are doing, it goes so well together.

You are so lucky to have sisters, I always wanted one, but I am the only child. My cousin and I are like sisters and we always have a wonderful time together. She lives in Virginia so now it's hard to go as much.

Have a terrific weekend and hope you find more amazing finds.

Beautiful finds with the sewing machine (looks like that round hole with peg had a key that fit into there to open the case), bookcase and mirror (which I *love*). 21. I just love that you left that can of spray paint in the top of your secretary! Isn't it amazing what you spot in photos that you never notice otherwise? I love the old Ethan Allen. I remember my parents had an upstairs study that was full of Ethan Allen maple and a really comfy sofa and wing chair and a braided rug. It was my favorite room to do my homework in when I was in school. Wish my Mom had not sold it all. I miss it. Stay cool my friend. I am longing for fall right now. How about you?

Now, this bookcase that you found in Joplin is just what I've been looking for too. And that singer sewing machine is a treasure. It reminds me of my mom who used to sew all my clothes. The secretary in the corner looks so charming, and love the brick walls. My mom had brick all throughout her kitchen and she plastered them herself with the help of my dad.
