Zip Lining in Skagway, Alaska on day three.
What was I thinking??
This adventure started out with a nice bus ride with narration through downtown Skagway and up the Klondike Highway. A short nature hike (HA!!) from the highway brought us to the Klondike Adventure Park where expert guides outfitted us with state-of-the-art safety equipment.
We had to scale up a mountain 700 feet by foot - yes, by foot. I almost didn't make it. Gina and Dale kept saying "you can do this, you can do this". And I finally did. Now, remind you, this was not stairs or a path - it was rocks and tree trunks and roots - straight up the side of this mountain.
When we finally reached the top, we did a rope course. The best description I can give you is the suspension bridge looked something like the bridge out of Indiana Jones! We did a raised balance beam and a looped rope bridge.
Then, we got to the zip lining!!
This was not a few feet off of the ground - more like a few hundred feet. I must say that the guides were excellent and at all times, we were anchored to two cables for safety.
We zoomed through the treetops high above the ground enjoying beautiful mountain views as we effortlessly soared through the air. We zipped from one platform to another.
It was amazing!!
We had to wear long sleeves because of the quarter size mosquitoes and with all of the equipment on, plus the fact it was almost 90 degrees, it was a little warm.
We zipped down five more lines and landed at the bottom. It was a real thrill. (If I just wouldn't have had to climb up) When they ask for comments, I told them they needed an elevator!
It was truly spectacular and something I will never forget. Now, I can check that off of my Bucket List!
Enjoy!
Till next time, Judy
I'm impressed Judy. The climb would have done me in.
ReplyDeleteWish I was there!!
ReplyDeleteThat climb would have scared me to death. I could never have done that. Kudos to you for doing that.
ReplyDeleteYour suggestion about the elevator is cute, and I would probably have said the same. The zip line part sounds thrilling.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Judy. I used to dream of sky diving, scuba diving and surfing. Well I've snorkled in the carribian twice, that's good for scuba diving. I've flown a plane twice, that's good for sky diving. But I am too old to swim in the ocean . LOL So my thrill seeking days are over. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI am going to take your word "it was amazing", cause first of all, I would have never made it up the hill. :-D
ReplyDeleteHope you and your hubby are doing much better.
There is a much easier one here in Douglas!
ReplyDeleteThe scenery in Alaska it spectacular but I think I would have chickened out of seeing it this way! You are brave my friend...braver than most! Hope you're feeling lots better! Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing and the pictures are awesome. I think I would have bowed out at the thought of climbing the mountain!

What an awesome experience! I'm not sure if this is something I'd ever want to do or not. I THINK I would, but I might chicken out once I see what it looks like in person. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better and stronger. I'm keeping you and your husband in my prayers. xoxo

ReplyDeleteWow Judy! This sounds so awesome, I would never be able to make that climb, but the view must have been spectacular! What a memory.
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing, Judy! I like the idea of the zip lining (maybe.....or would it feel too scary and high??)......but the climb up sounds very strenuous! You are a brave lady...good for you that you did it!
