The Big Fluffy Bear

Let me tell you the story behind my big, fluffy bear.

When my great grandson was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, we spent the biggest part of 15 months at the Children's Hospital at St. Francis Hospital here in Tulsa.

The doctors and nurses were just fantastic.

Three months before Landen passed away, we were getting ready for his birthday which was May 10th.  When we asked him where he wanted to have his birthday party (telling him he could have it anywhere he wanted), he quickly said he wanted to have his party at the Children's Hospital.

So, we planned a big party at the hospital making sure we had cupcakes and favors for all of the children on the cancer floor.  Some of them could not make it so we took their treats to their rooms.

A good time was had by all and the nurses on the floor gave this beautiful big bear to Landen for his birthday.  He loved that bear and would sit and watch TV with that bear as a seat.

When he passed away, I took the bear to my local florist and ask if she would fix it for his funeral.  We had balloons in one hand and a big bouquet of flowers in the other.  The big bear sit in a chair next to his casket.

I ask Landen's Mom if I could keep the bear and I love to put a ribbon on him for different holidays.  He is sitting in my breakfast room and will always be a precious memory of our time with Landen and the impact that darling little boy had on our lives.

So, if you see the big bear around the house, you'll know his story.

He makes me smile.

Enjoy!

Judy

  20. Judy, I saw your big bear on my side bar, and had to come right over, as I have a thing for bears. I'm so sorry to hear about your great grandson, Landen. You will always have memories of him, especially when you look at this wonderful big brown bear! Maybe you can have him holding a cross for Easter. This is a precious story about a precious grandson.
