This has truly been an amazing week - some good, some really good and some a little scary.
I had a landscaping crew come in and weed all of my many flowerbeds and put in mulch. They look so neat and pretty now. I'm hoping now that I can keep them up the rest of the summer.
This mystery bush has been identified as a Southern Magnolia by many of you gardeners. Thanks. It still hasn't opened up the flowers. Will keep you posted.
Another unidentified plant is this....
it has clusters of little bulbs that bloom out into these...
And then there is this gorgeous bush - is it peonies?
My interesting week started out on Tuesday with 45 solid minutes of tornado sirens going off. Bella howled along with them the whole time. As a result of the high winds, this happened to my tree in the front yard.
This was the Oklahoma sky during this.
My sister Jeannie came on Wednesday and stayed until Saturday. We had a great time. We unpacked and put up alot of my unfinished boxes, we ate out alot of good food and of course we shopped. I will show you in a day or so what all I found on Saturday when we garage and estate saled.
After she left today, I went to the Tulsa Flea Market and took a couple of my red transferware pieces to have potted.
There is this sweet lady who sells succulents and if you bring a container or buy one at the flea market, she'll repot them for you.
She did this one with a hen and chicken only it is a species called spider web hen and chicken. You can see it better in the photo below.
This is the other one she did. She called this plant a lace necklace succulent.
So, that's where I have been this week - just goofing off and enjoying it tremendously.
Enjoy!
Judy
I worked on my flower beds this week as well Judy and like you , I hope I can keep up with them all summer. So glad you were safe in the storms.
ReplyDeleteThe storms have been something else this year already. Hopefully, the yard and plants won't grow so fast that I can't keep up with them. That's what I planning on.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Judy
You have had an eventful week Judy. Your beds look wonderful! Mulch certainly does help. I put it in my beds after spring clean up and I have very little weeding after that. I do know that flower. It is called, Spiderwort. I had a purple and a blue blooming one at my previous home. I have some of those spider web hens and chicks. They really are unique! Glad you got to spend time with your sis and sorry about the tree.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Thanks Jann - I knew some of your gardeners would know what that flower was. Interesting plant it is.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Judy
Judy, you are about to have gorgeous peonies bloom!! Lucky you. I love the little succulent in your pottery. What a fun week you've had!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
I thought those were maybe peonies. The bush is full of buds.
DeleteHave a great weekend.
Judy
Your flowerbeds look wonderful. The spider web hen and chicken are really unique! That is cool that she will plant them in your container. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeletexo Dianne
Thanks Dianne - She was so precise in planting them and putting in the different layers of soil and gravel. I'm really enjoying them.
DeleteHave a great week.
Judy
Glad it was only a limb!
ReplyDeleteMe too!!
DeleteJudy
45 minutes of listening to the tornado warning siren would make me howl too. Glad you only had one limb come down.
ReplyDeleteYou will love that Southern Magnolia. I have spiderwort and they are a favorite of mine. They spread all by themselves too.
Happy Gardening ~ FlowerLady
I have the spiderwort several places in the yard. I had never seen them before.
DeleteHave a great week and happy May Day!
Judy
the blue flower is a spiderwort and yes, that is a peony
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy. I've never heard of spiderwort. It is an unusual looking plant.
DeleteHappy May Day.
Judy
Yes, they're peonies. My favorite flower. Mine are still growing, no buds yet. Sorry to hear about the scary weather. Oklahoma and Texas have sure had their share of terrible, life-threatening weather lately. Much love.
ReplyDeleteMy peony bush is just loaded with blooms. I was pretty sure that was what they were. The last few weeks have been crazy weather. I've been lucky tho.
DeleteHappy May Day.
Judy
Those are peonies, we can't grow them this far south, you are lucky! Love the succulent gardens in the china.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Thanks Meredith. The peony bush is just loaded with buds. It should be breathtaking when it is all bloomed out.
DeleteHappy May Day
Judy
SOunds like an interesting week. Not the storms though. Sounds like a fun time with your sis. Your garden is so pretty, Judy. Love the cute succulents.
ReplyDeleteIn Oklahoma you kind of get use to the alerts. I had to find a new "hiddy hole" in the new house. The storm siren must be really close here because it just about knocked Bella and I off the bed when it went off. I sure don't think I could sleep thru these sirens. That's good. LOL
DeleteJudy
Good thing that big tree didn't come down! We rarely have tornadoes, but a storm last fall broke 3 main branches off our apple tree and we had to cut it down. You've got some pretty peonies coming up and lots of nice flowering bushes in your landscape. It's good to take a week just to have fun!
ReplyDeleteIf the big tree ever comes down, I'm in deep trouble. LOL It is huge. I have to keep the branches trimmed back so it wouldn't fall on the house. The rain and cool weather has really made all of the flowers bloom and look gorgeous.
DeleteThanks for visiting.
Judy
We've been under a few tornado watches here, that's scary enough for me! Your peony is looking good, you will love it and the scent is so nice! You have a lovely home and gardens, Judy. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThe peony bush is just loaded with buds. It will be beautiful I'm sure.
DeleteThanks for dropping by.
Judy
Your week sounds like fun with your sister! Not the tornado and storms part. How clever to have china gardens, really special!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
Nancy
My two sisters and I are especially close and spend a lot of time together. I have blessed to have them near by.
DeleteHappy May Day!
Judy
Your flowerbeds look so nice! Yes, that is a peony bush. Not sure about the other one. Living in northern IL, I'm all too familiar with tornado warnings, too. So far, we've only had a couple of watches this spring. It's also been a very cold week - only in the 40's and dreary and rainy. So depressing. How nice that the lady at the flea mkt plants the succulents for you! I love succulents and have quite a few myself. In fact, I bought a vintage pottery bowl at a shop yesterday and am making a succulent garden for my mom for Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful time with your sister. I'm glad you have such a close relationship.
Thanks Melanie - Our weather has been all over the place this Spring. It's cool today and tomorrow will probably be 70-80. That's Oklahoma for you. Yes, the lady does a great job with the succulents and only charged me $3.00/each - just for the plant.
DeleteMy sisters and I are very close. I am so blessed by them.
Have a happy May Day!
Judy
Oh my, the tornado sirens must have been scary, but look at that sky, it's glorious!! It was really windy here yesterday too. The red transferware looks nice with your plants in them. I always admire the red transferware. Not sure what flowers these are, as I'm just learning myself.
ReplyDeleteHave a restful Sunday, Judy.
love, ~Sheri
Hi Sheri - The sky was just unbelievable. I thought to myself - John would be really upset with me outside taking photos while the tornado sirens were going off. LOL Oh well....
DeleteHave a great week.
Judy
Dear Judy
ReplyDeleteThe purple/blue flower is indeed a spiderwort and its latin name is tradescantia. There are varieties grown as houseplants, or there are hardy ones which can be grown outside. It looks like you are really enjoying your new garden.
Best wishes
Ellie
Hi Ellie - I am enjoying my garden and I am not a gardener. I'm very thankful to the ones who lived here before and had a love for flowers. Now, if I can just keep it up.
Deletethanks for visiting.
Judy
They tested the tornado sirens here the other day and my Yoykies were howling like crazy!! Love the plant in your transware bowl...so sweet.
ReplyDelete~Cindy
The sirens had not gone off since I moved into this new home and they must be EXTREMELY close. I certainly will never sleep thru them. LOL
DeleteJudy
Glad that you dodged the tornado...spring is my favorite time of year, but since moving to East/central Kansas it is also the scariest time of year! I don't think I will ever get used to tornado season, no matter how long I live here.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you had a chance to enjoy your sis.
I love your choice of vessels for the succulents. Hope there are no spiders involved with the spider web succulent!
My Mom was in a tornado just a few years before I was born so I grew up spending more time in the cellar than the house during the Spring. Now, I have gotten a little lax about them but do still respect the warnings.
DeleteThanks for visiting.
Judy
Tornado warnings must be scary, it's something I hope I never have to experience. We have our own stuff and I lived through many earthquakes in California, so I think I'll just skip the tornado stuff. I'm glad you are okay though! Love this little succulents in the transferware. Did she put any type of drainage holes in, or do they stay dry enough with the rocks? Looking forward to seeing your fun treasures! Blessings, Cindy xo
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy - The succulents don't need drainage she said. She did put a layer of tiny rocks/gravel in the bottom as well as on the top. She said to water them once every two weeks with 1/8 cup of water and let them have plenty of sunshine. So, we'll see.
DeleteHave a great week.
Judy
Dennis brought home some mulch today, so I'll be spreading that out soon. Your photos inspire me. Tornados are so scary. I'm glad all you suffered was a broken branch. I'm reading through your posts tonight, catching up on all your news. You've been a busy girl! xxx ~ Nancy
