Can't Believe I Missed This

I can not believe I missed this fact yesterday!!

"May 8th, 1886 - Atlanta pharmacist John Styth Pemberton invented the flavor syrup for Coca-Cola."

What an important day in history.

When I get all of the boxes unpacked in the garage, I will share with you my huge collection of Coca Cola items.  I have collected them for probably 50 years.

\
I have lots of vintage Coca Cola bottles in all shapes and sizes.

I had to laugh because many years ago (32 to be exact), Coke announced they were doing away with the original Coke and doing a New Coke.  I went into hysterics.

One night another couple and John and I went all over Tulsa buying up the 2 Liter Cokes - the original.

My house was stocked with Cokes everywhere. I even wrote them a letter telling them what I thought.

They did answer my letter and told me they realized true Coke drinkers were not accepting the New Coke very well and they would be bringing back the original.

I had two 2 Liters left when the original Coke came back.

So, yesterday was a very significant day for me.

LOL

  5. Looking forward to seeing your collection. I used to have my kitchen with Coke decorations. I worked for Denny's restaurants in the corporate office and was ex sectary to the Purchasing Manager, therefore I got a lot of coke items. I don't know what happened to all of them, but if I run across any will send them to you. Now it's just roosters.

Have a great weekend - hugs to Bella.

  6. I REMEMBER THAT COKE ANNOUNCEMENT SO CLEARLY! I cannot believe it was that long ago!
I also have a little Coke collection-but not at all like you, the Queen, with over 50 pieces.
Soon after Coke announced that new-formula Coke, I read about an upset employee who had somehow found and written the original recipe down-and posted it in the newspaper-imagine that! Wonder if he came upon the safe combination?

  10. I sure do remember when that happened and by the way, I will enjoy seeing your collection. I know one Coke collector and she is avid with that collection. Do you have any of the original 6 1/2 I think oz. glass bottles? I remember they were so "hot" as I used to call it when my father bought me one, I didn't want to drink it. Carbonation must be what I was referring to. They burnt my throat seemingly. :-)

    1. I have so much Coke stuff and don't really know what I am going to do with it all. I really don't have a place to put it all out. So am contemplating what to do with it.

      Have a great day!

    1. It was indeed, a dark day in history! LOL Some say it was one of their most outstanding advertising projects but didn't work for me. LOL

I have a lot of friends who are Pepsi drinkers. It's not all bad.

  15. I was also in hysterics when I found out there would be a new formula. I became a cokaholic at a very tender age. My grandma worked in a drugstore that had a fountain where they had actual coke syrup that they used to make their cokes. I did my son's bathroom in Coke memorabilia. I even took an old bottle to the paint store so they could get an idea of the green I wanted for the walls. I had coke drawer handles that were so cute. When we sold the house the new owners bought all the coke pieces I had in there.
