Oh boy, did I have fun today!! Yes, I know, I'm suppose to be working hard on items for my Etsy shop; however, I could not help myself. I had to do something just for fun today.
And this is what I made.
An ottoman and a lamp to match!
Isn't this the cutest thing you ever saw? You would never guess what it started out as ------one of those big containers you get popcorn in at the holidays! You know, the ones you get when someone doesn't know what to buy you?
I used a combination of red and white checked linen fabric, red chenille, lace trim, fluffy red fringe, and red pom pom fringe.
I just started by covering the tin can with a layer of heavy batting and then layering fabric on top of it. I used hot glue for the whole thing.
I decided to do an old lamp shade I already had. I didn't want to do it like the other one I had already done. So, this one just has fabric, ribbon, rick rack, etc. tied around the top and the bottom only. The only thing I don't like about this one is being able to see the light bulb.
But, it's still adorable!
The only thing I had to buy was the red, fluffy fringe. It's hard to find something in bright red anymore. I got this at HL. It was $4.99/yard but I had a coupon for 40% off. I used 3 yards.
Don't forget to comment for a chance for the Giveaway of the Plaster Paint that was posted yesterday! All it takes is a comment on each day's post from now thru Saturday.
Enjoy!
Till next time, Judy
I just posted on a wire shade frame I bought last week. I thought immediately of how cute it would look with torn cotton ribbons all over it. I love the way you did yours and the ottoman from the popcorn tin is very clever!
ReplyDeleteDo these match your red cabinet doors or are they for your shop?
Oh Judy, that is just soooo cute! You're a project wonder. And it's hard to find things in bright red anymore? Oh no.

ReplyDeleteOkay, that ottoman is just the cutest thing. Love all of your fabric and trim choices, and to think it started out as a popcorn tin. Brilliant! The lamp shade is really cute too. Maybe you should paint the light bulb red! laurie

ReplyDeleteI must admit, it would be wonderful to be able to do something with those popcorn tins.
ReplyDeleteArt sometimes happens on a whim, doesn't it? Cute things that you came up with. Won't the light bulb burn the fabric without a shade though?
ReplyDeleteOMG Judy. I was in the US last week and after reading your blog, I said to the girls "we have to stop at Hobby Lobby". They are frequent US shoppers but hadn't hear of it. I bought so much there! It was my favourite store. J
