Thrilled With Experimental DIY

Do you remember all of the curly-q trim on the kitchen cabinets in my newly acquired home?

Well, I decided I would try to do something with them because the kitchen had been redone with new glass backsplash, granite and all new SS appliances.  So, I thought if I could just get rid of the curly-q trim, I could live with the painted cabinets.

Idea!!

I found a trim at Lowe's and brought a piece of it home and it would just fit over the wavy edge.  So, I went back and got more.  $20.00 worth of it.

I cut it with a miter saw and then used Gorilla Glue and tape and clamps to adhere the trim to the cabinets over the wavy edge.

Ta - Da!

It hasn't been painted yet, but I am thrilled with the new look!

I still have the vent over the cook top and the valances over the sink to deal with.  But, on Christmas Day and today, I got all of the kitchen done.  Now, I just have to paint the trim.  It is whiter than the cabinets but I have paint that matches the cabinets.

What a difference it has made!  I am so proud of myself.

Enjoy!

Judy

  7. They look wonderful! I LOVE the look of painted cabinets and that trim makes them look more modern and yet the country painted look still remains. I'm still amazed that you're moving to a different house after all that work you had done on your other house! You are one brave lady! But we must continue to have adventures in our lives, right?

  17. Your cabinets look very nice, Judy. You did a great job on this project. I'm sure you're going to love your new space; so many ideas to look forward to. And I noticed the charming brick in the background. My mom had brick all throughout her kitchen, and it always reminds me of her when I see it.

Wishing you a wonderful new year filled with peace and joy.

  21. I agree with everyone here...it was a creative idea and it looks fab. I have to add this: the outlets should have faceplates in the darkest color that is in the glass tile backsplash. It looks on my monitor like dk. brown. If it is, you can find dark brown ones cheaply at WalMart. If the darkest color in the tile is some other color, you can just take them off and spray them with paint for plastic. I personally would go one further and hand paint the actual place where your plug goes with a dark color, too. Then your beautiful new backsplash would be the star attraction!
