It Didn't Rain in Oklahoma

OK, if you lived thru the summer in Oklahoma, you'll get this post.  If you live where the trees are gorgeous colors with beautiful foliage, you might not get it.

We had a rough summer and this is about what 30 some days of 100+ temps will do to your plants, trees and shrubs.  This is my Hosta pot which is usually 3-4 feet across and it is no larger that a foot and burned to a crisp.

This is what's left of my hydrangea bush.  It normally is still blooming at this time of the year but it gave up a long time ago.

This is a common sight in our neighborhood.  Trees that have been here a long time are being cut down because they are just gone.

So many of the trees are gone .

So many of the trees that are not completely dead are in such an awful shape because of partly dead limbs and partly still alive limbs.

This is my biggest loss I am afraid!! Several years ago, one of my best friends Carole, took me out to lunch for my birthday in March.  While we were out to lunch, her husband and son came and planted this beautiful weeping cherry tree.  The first winter we had it, we had 11 days of ice and we lost part of it.  Then, we've had two horrid summers of heat and I just don't know if it'll make it or not.

We were lucky in that all of our big, established trees - birch, pine, dogwood and redbud - have survived with some trimming.

So, enjoy your beautiful trees while you have them.  I just ooh and aah over all of the fabulous photos I'm seeing.

But, hopefully, next year will be better.

Till next time, Judy

  2. We had a terribly hot summer here too. Don't folks there water in the summer? I deep soak our trees and they seem to make it fine. Just wondering. Oh well hopefully folks will plant new trees as I just love them.

  3. Hi Judy,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment. Yes, it's horrible what the weather can do. Hopefully, the weather can only get better next year. Your wreath in the previous post looks great! Nice job. Have a great week!

  7. Oh Judy I am so sorry! We had a summer like that (no rain) a few years ago and I lost some plants in my yard also. Hang in there...maybe next year! Hugs, Linda

  8. Judy, It was so hot here in Kansas too this summer and I had a hard time just trying to keep my plants alive! My big river birch trees looked like they were dying for about a month and then snapped out of it. We had one of the weeping cherry trees. If it's leaves don't all turn brown there is still hope! Good luck! xo's Pam

  9. I know what it's like to see beloved trees struggle. I do hope they finally got the rain they neeeded.

  10. Wishing you much rain and cool temps before the cold hits to heal your poor tree, what a summer you endured. Hopefully it will be a mild and wet winter to replenish the trees and fields. Deb
