Welcome Spring and My Latest Project

Welcome to Spring in my new home!  The first thing I had to do was hang a Spring wreath by the front door.

I am constantly amazed at how the Dogwood always blooms for Easter.

I love the significance of the Dogwood flower.  And it never matters when Easter comes - early or late - it blooms for Easter Sunday.

I have two big areas of my flower beds that had these little sprouts pop up and didn't know until today what kind of flower they were.  I think they are Lilies of the Valley.  Am I right?

This huge Hosta is in my front flower bed.  It's about four foot across.

These Hostas are in the back yard under a tree.  I love the way they get larger as they go.  I guess it has something to do with the sunshine or lack of.

In the back yard are many colorful flowers.  All of the borders are these tiny violets.  So sweet!

Now to my latest project!!  I did an arrangement of stacked plates in the guest room.  This is a yellow room with the red toile.

I cannot take credit for this idea.  When I first started reading blogs, one of my favorite was Tina at Cherry Hill Cottage.  She had one of these in a bedroom and I have always wanted to make one.  It was fun but quite time consuming.

I'm just hoping that if we have a tornado (which Tulsa did have last night but not in my area) or an earthquake, it won't knock my dishes off of the wall.  Do you know that Oklahoma has had more earthquakes that California?  Scary, eh?  It has something to do with the oil drilling they are doing.  I hope they stop soon.  Very soon!!

I also hung this picture.  A very dear friend of mine was moving and had had this in her home as long as I have known her (which is about 50 years).  She didn't have room for it in her new home and gave it to me.  I have always loved this sweet picture.

So, I'm trying to get the guest room all done as the first room to check off of my list.  I don't seem to be progressing as much as I wish I was.  But, I will get there and am enjoying every minute of it.

Enjoy!

Judy

  1. Oh Judy, everything looks terrific. I love the wreath on the door. The guest bedroom looks so good with your plate arrangement. I like it very much.

Glad to hear that you were not effected by the tornado. I was in one when
I was 20 years old and scared me to death.

    Your home is looking wonderful.
Yes, they are Lilies of the Valley and smell wonderful. You have some very pretty flowers in your gardens.

  10. Your spring blooms are way ahead of ours here in northern IL. The hostas are barely poking through the ground right now. Dogwood won't be blooming for another 2-3 weeks. Yes, that's Lily of the Valley coming up in your yard. So pretty! Love your plate wall and the painting from your friend.

  12. You mentioned the plate idea wasn't yours, but just the same, you arrangement is amazing. Love it so much, and can't imagine how long it had to take, to make it this perfect. How do you ever hang the plates that are in front (on top of the other) Did you have to lay it out first on the floor to get an idea where to place each plate, or did you just go ahead (like I would, "willy nilly". I have a number of hand painted antique plates, and would love to do this, but alas, I have no wall space. But yours are beautiful!!!! I have a flower bed of Lily of the Valley in the side yard, but mine have not peeked out yet. They are a favorite of mine, the fragrance is wonderful. Here in Wisconsin, Spring can't come soon enough.

Yes, I hope they quit drilling, they are making the area so unstable.
Love your wreath with the little birds sitting on the edge of the watering can.
Hope you have a great weekend.

  16. Judy, I wasn't familiar with the Dogwood flower until I saw it on many of my blog friend's posts. It has an interesting story behind the flower. And how wonderful that it blooms for you at Easter. The stacked plates are delightful. It looks lovely on your wall. Yes, let's hope that none fall off. I absolutely love that picture that your friend gave you. It's something I would put in my own home.

You always have charming posts, Judy. Happy April!

    love, ~Sheri

  17. Your flowers are amazing!!!! Who knew!!!! Those are lilies of the valley..and you know, I am sure, that they are very poisonous. I remember seeing that stacked plates idea somewhere. That was quite an undertaking and you did a phenomenal job of pulling that all together. WOW! What an amazing statement that makes on the wall.

Happy April to you in your new home, Judy. I am so thrilled for you- xo Diana

  22. My dear Judy, your garden is simply stunning and it would appear Spring has arrived in full bloom :) Where I live in the mountains it will be another 3-4 weeks until we see any buds on the trees, but right now you can see they are coming to life.

And your plates are fabulous! I love them :) Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs!
