Memories

My memories of my Mother are so sweet.  My Mom was a stay at home Mom who worked so hard raising four daughters.  She was the kind of mother who would stay up late at night sewing something special for us to wear the next day.  She made school clothes, prom dresses, Easter dresses and anything else we needed and/or wanted.

We had big breakfasts every morning and a full sit down dinner every night.  No fast food for us.  (Of course, back then, there weren't alot of fast food places.)

Her Mom - my Nana - came to live with us when I was in the first grade.  What a blessing she was.  Nana did gorgeous handwork of all kinds and was always eager to show us how she did what she did.

So, I have a fantastic heritage of "Moms" and just hope I'm half the Mom they both were.

To honor my Mom, I started a collection in my hall way of vintage Mother plaques.  They are kind of hard to photograph because of the narrow hall and no way to stand back and get a good picture.

I also know so many sweet, dear friend who would have made the most awesome Mothers but for some reason did not have children. But, these friends are the ones who "mother" others with advice and comfort.  So, I honor all of them also.

And then, there are the Mothers raising children who are not their biological children.  I admire them so much and know the Lord has great rewards for them.

So, here's hoping all of these wonderful women have a fantastic day.

Blessings to you all!

Judy

  3. ❀.•❤•.✿.•❤ Happy Mother's Day! ❀.•❤•.✿.•❤ You are so lucky to have had your grandmother live with you. My parents moved us from the family home in Oklahoma to Oregon when I was 4 years old. I barely knew my grandparents at all and I feel a deep loss about that. You are also lucky your mom stayed home and put you first. Mine always worked as she found it more exciting than staying home. So.. I don't have warm memories like you. Wish I did. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  6. Such a nice post about your mom and nana. My mom was also a (mostly) stay at home mom.. at least in our earlier years. She did work part-time out of the home but was always home when we got home from school. She wanted it that way. she also had FOUR daughters, just like your mom! Her mother was my only grandmother that I knew. My granddad died when she was two. I only had my one grandmother and I remember times when I was young, helping her bake and put green stamps into the stamp books! Those were happy memories. My mom also sewed for all four of her daughters and made us such pretty outfits full of ruffles and trim. Remember rick rack? she loved using it! Your memories wall is wonderful.

  7. Sweet post! I never saw any fast food either till I was grown. My mother also made all my clothes and a lot of her own. She made three of my wedding dresses! Ha!

  8. What sweet memories of your mom and grandma. Sometimes I wish our society could go back to times like that...when most moms were at home and grandma and grandpa lived with the family, too. Or, at least, they lived next door. Love your gallery wall of mother plaques.

  11. What a nice Mother's Day post, Judy, to honor all the different types of mothers. My mom sounded much like yours, staying up late to sew something for us to wear the next day, and making homemade meals. Yes, there weren't many fast foods back then - in fact, McDonalds came later in my town, and all the kids hung out there and ate their yummy fries. :) I really like your collection of vintage mother plaques. I hope you had a very nice Mother's Day.

    love, ~Sheri
