What's Going On Around Here

Just a post about what is going on around here.  I have had these gorgeous flowers pop up everywhere.  I don't know what they are - I suppose some kind of lily????

They are all over the back yard.

Had a very interesting experience on Saturday morning.  My sister Jeannie was here and was up - early as usual.  I was still in bed.  All of a sudden the walls started shaking and rattling and a tremendous roar ensued.  Plates were rattling on the walls but thank goodness, none of them fell.  Some pictures got knocked askew but that was fixable.

Then, we started listening to the news.  A 5.6 earthquake!!  In Tulsa, Oklahoma and it lasted about a minute.  It seemed much longer than that.  So, I've survived my first earthquake that I have felt.

Quite an experience!!

The back fence is covered in these pretty white vines.

These are still blooming profusely.

This is what one side of my front yard looks like.  Remember me telling you a month or so ago that the electric company was starting to put all of the hi lines underground?  Well, this is the start.

This is the other side on the driveway.  Hopefully, it will be finished before too long.

These are the side lights on my garage.  They are original to the house and I love them.

I put my little stone and concrete houses out in the front flower bed.

In the process of the move, in the garage I found a brown paper sack full of bulbs that were from my Mom and Dad's house.  I planted them and look what has come up!!  Elephant ears.  Mother always had those in her flowerbeds.  It's been 13 years since she passed and I can't believe they still bloomed.

ALERT!!

If you are interested in any pillows on my Etsy shop, from today until September 10th you can use the code FALL2016 and get a 25% discount.  This is on the 25 pillows already listed.

I am hard at work on Christmas items for my Etsy shop and would just like to clear out some of the pillows.

Enjoy!

Judy

  1. I don't know what those flowers are in your first photo (lilies, alliums?) but they are pretty and frilly. How amazing those Elephant ear bulbs were viable after 13 years! That is a nice improvement to have underground power lines; we have the pole kind.

    1. Yes - the underground lines will be nice when they get finished. You can hardly get down the street because of all of the big machinery and trucks. But, it will be great when they finish.

  2. I wondered if you were okay after the earth quake. They sure are scary and I hope I never have to go through another one. Your flowers are very pretty. I don't know what the red one is, probably in the lily family.

How did Bella like the Earth Quake? Mine get really scared and Waldo look at the floor like something is going to come up LOL.

Have a great week and so glad that none of your dishes broke. I had a lot of damage on the last one we had 2/1/2 year ago.

    1. Bella woke me up pacing and pawing at me so I think she knew before I did what was happening. It was really scary. I'm still amazed that I didn't loose anything on the walls because I have dishes hung in almost every room.

      Thanks for visiting.

  3. Judy,
    Goodness, dear friend!
We, too, felt the earthquake on our side of the Prairie!
We've had several, but none as hard or as long as the one on Saturday morning!
    Your flowers are lovely!
    Elephant ears!
My beloved brother adored them and grew them in his front Garden in OK City, OK!
Love those lantern original to your home!
Looks as if all is well with all that's going on around there!
    Fondly,

    1. Yes Laura - The earthquake was scary. My niece lives in LA and is getting ready to move back here. I'm always telling her she needs to leave California before the big quake hits. Needless to say, she called Saturday to remind me of what I had said. LOL

    1. It was a very scary feeling to wake up with the house shaking like that. But, apparently, I have no damage. I've checked all around the house and can't find any cracks.

      Have a great Wednesday.

  9. Glad you are ok after the quake. I wonder if your flowers are nerines, it might be worth looking them up to see. If so you are lucky to have them as they can be difficult to grow!

    1. Those flowers are all along the back of my house - probably 50-60 of them. They are so pretty. That's where I'm having a deck built so I will have the yard guy dig them up and move them for sure.

  11. My mom calls those spider lilies, and they always show up about the time school starts. Well, the TRADITIONAL time for school to start, not August 1st like some areas! I remember taking them to my teacher when I was in elementary school.

  15. I thought about you, my friend, when I heard about the earthquake. I've been through them (in CA) and they are quite frightening! I hope OK starts to back off on fracking, because that's what is causing the increase in earthquakes in your state. Love your flowers!

  16. Your first plant is a Spider Lily (Lycoris radiata) (aka Naked Lady since no leaves) and their origin is Japan and were brought over to North Carolina and were planted as bulbs. Your white vine is Sweet Autumn Clematis which should have a great fragrance to it. What you are calling elephants ears is really Colocasia, it leave shape is like an elephants ears. The previous owners really loved flower. Sorry I've been missing we are in remodel hell and it seem like it will never end.

  18. The only plant I knew was the Autumn Clematis because my mom just posted a pic on FB of the same plant (her neighbor's) growing up their shared fence. It's beautiful! So scary about the earthquake. Glad there was no damage.
