Starting Early on Christmas Goodies

I don't mean to rush into Christmas, but since I make almost all of my gifts, I have to start early.  Today I am going to share with you one of the things I do for the holidays.  Just a little, simple gift that takes no time at all.

As you can see on the pedestal with the cloche, I have a collection of vintage clear glass salt shakers.  I collect them all year and I'm sure if you follow my Saturday Treasures, you know I generally have picked up a few.  You can usually get them for $1.00 each and up to $3.00 for a pair.  If you watch for the "lone" ones without a partner, you can usually get a really good deal on them.

Now, the ones with the red Bakelite tops run a little more.

This is so easy, I even hesitate to tell you how to do it.  But, it does make a precious little gift.

Clean out the salt shaker (I put mine in the dishwasher - but not the top part - you want it to look old).  Then buy a package of the little artificial trees at Michaels or HL.  Put just a dab of hot glue on the bottom of the wooden base and using tweezers, push it down into the salt shaker.  It will stay put immediately.  Then take a small funnel and pour some artificial snow in.  If it gets on the tree - that's OK.  It'll work it's way down.

Screw on the lid and you're done.

I put a bunch of them on my pedestal with the cloche over them in the entry.  Then, when I have company, as they leave  I can gift them with one.

The two ruby pieces of glass were my Mom's.  The little red candy is glass also.  The Candy Cane arrangement has rusty stars which goes with the rusty pedestal.

Enjoy!

Till next time, Judy
